In the Classroom

St Mark’s offers a broad and holistic teaching and learning program, underpinned by the Australian Curriculum.

Our inquiry-based learning approach fosters our students’ natural sense of curiosity. We also recognise that learning is a process of continual development and builds upon prior success.

Key Areas of Learning

Our nine key areas of learning are: English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Health and Physical Education, The Arts, Technologies, German and Christian Studies.

Through these key areas, our students adopt an inquiry approach to develop their knowledge and skills in a partnership with their teachers as they become active in constructing learning pathways to provide foundations that will support their lifelong learning.

St Mark’s considers English and Mathematics as priority learning areas as proficiency in these subjects transfers across all learning as students move through life.

We also recognise that we live in a rapidly changing world. Our students begin learning the basics of Technology from their first year and we balance traditional learning methods with new tools, techniques and technologies to best equip them for life and learning in our digital age.

The importance of understanding that we live in a global world is encouraged through students undertaking learning in German and Library Studies. These learning areas – and all others in our curriculum – are supported by access to our extensive school-provided technology resources.

Learning Support

We welcome and support children with learning needs requiring support plans and their families as valued members of our St Mark’s family.

We provide support both in classrooms and to allow students to work individually or in small groups with specialist teachers and support staff.
