To enhance studies in HASS, Science and Visual Arts, Year 5 students will visit the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum and Proclamation Tree at Glenelg.
They will view artwork from Australia’s colonial era, a period of history being explored in HASS as well as explore how art is used to tell stories and to capture moments in time. Paintings and drawings were important ways of recording history.
At the Museum, students will be looking at animal exhibits and considering how each animal’s special features enable it to survive in its given habitat. This links with our upcoming science unit on Animal Adaptations. The last stop will be the Proclamation Tree at Mayor’s Park. At this location, in 1836, the colony of South Australia was proclaimed as a province.
